A Calm Place to Learn About Money in Retirement
Tabungo was built around a simple belief: every retiree deserves access to clear, patient, pressure-free financial education.

How Tabungo Came to Be
Tabungo was founded in Kuala Lumpur by a small group of adult educators and community advocates who noticed something missing in the local landscape. Retirement planning workshops and financial courses tended to be aimed at working professionals — they were fast-paced, full of jargon, and designed for people still building careers rather than people already enjoying (or navigating) retirement.
The founders — several of whom had spent years working with older adult communities in KL and the Klang Valley — saw that many retirees felt uncomfortable asking questions in mainstream settings, struggled with small print and dense materials, and often left seminars feeling more confused than when they arrived. The conversations needed to be different: slower, friendlier, and built around the actual day-to-day concerns of retired life in Malaysia.
Tabungo opened its doors at Wisma Genting in 2019. The name draws on the Malay word tabung — a savings vessel or tin — a familiar, warm image of setting aside and being careful with what one has. Since those early sessions, the organisation has grown steadily through word of mouth among retirees, community groups, and families in the Klang Valley.
Today, Tabungo runs three distinct programmes, each shaped by ongoing feedback from participants. Our team continues to refine materials and pacing each year to reflect what retirees genuinely find helpful — and what they tell us they want more of.
Our Mission
To make clear, respectful money education available to every retiree in Malaysia, in a setting that feels welcoming rather than intimidating.

Our Standards
How We Keep Our Programmes Trustworthy
No Product Sales
We have no relationship with any financial product provider. Nothing is sold in our sessions. Participants can attend with complete peace of mind.
Education-Only Content
All content is general educational information about money management. We do not provide regulated financial advice and we say so clearly at every session.
Annual Content Review
Materials are reviewed each year against current information and participant feedback. We update worksheets, journals, and examples to stay relevant and accurate.
Privacy Protection
Participant information is handled carefully and never shared with third parties. Our privacy practices align with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
Accessibility Focus
Large-print materials, well-lit rooms, and comfortable seating are standard at every session. We ask about any specific needs when participants register.
Feedback-Driven
Every cohort is invited to share feedback. We read every response and use it to adjust pacing, content, and the session environment in future rounds.
About Our Work
Thoughtful Money Education for Retirement in Malaysia
Retirement brings a different relationship with money. The regular pay cheque stops; savings and pensions take centre stage. Organising monthly living costs, reviewing what is available, and staying alert to common schemes that target older adults all require a certain kind of knowledge — one that most formal education never covered. Tabungo exists to fill that gap in a measured, respectful way.
Based in the heart of Kuala Lumpur at Wisma Genting, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Tabungo is within reach of retirees across the Klang Valley. Sessions run at Tabungo's own venue, which is designed for the comfort of older adults rather than for corporate efficiency. The space is quiet, well-lit, and furnished for relaxed seating over several hours.
The three programmes — the half-day workshop, the five-week programme, and the ten-week course — are not interchangeable products. Each is paced and structured differently, and each targets a different level of engagement. Some people need a single morning to feel clearer; others benefit from the ongoing rhythm of weekly sessions. Tabungo helps prospective participants choose honestly based on their situation.
Since 2019, Tabungo has served retirees from across KL and the wider Klang Valley. Participants have included former civil servants, business owners, teachers, and homemakers — people from varied backgrounds who share a common desire to feel more settled about their money without being pushed or pressured into anything.
